Incorporated in 1962, the City of Veneta is a thriving community of over 3000 people. The current town of Elmira in Oregon's Southern Willamette Valley was originally named Duckworth. Government officials were convinced to change the name to Elmira in December of 1884. A landowner, Byron Ellmaker, requested the name-change shortly after settling in Lane County near the current Fern Ridge Reservoir. Elmira is located 15 miles away from Eugene, Oregon. This is where most residents do their shopping.
